What do you need to SURVIVE for 72 hours? And not just you...what about your kids? And then after you survive will you be happy? We won't be happy if we don't revamp our emergency kits soon. I'm afraid newborn diapers and baby formula will only keep a six-year-old and a three-year-old happy for just so long.
We have been inching through our 72-hour kits for our Family Home Evenings over the past few weeks. Still inching, but we're making some progress. Now that I have thrown away expired fruit cups and granola bars, we need to peel open one of those mystery MRE's and see if we even like them. Who eats those? We all have them in our kits for that "emergency", but have you actually tasted one? I remember eating one of those astronaut freeze-dried ice creams from the Hansen Planetarium. I hope the MRE's taste like that.

Gee, way to pour on the guilt trip here. As if the voice in my head wasn't bad enough. ;) This is something I have been meaning to get to and hopefully I will before it is too late.
On a side note, tried one of those freeze dried ice-cream sandwiches a few weeks ago. Not bad. They were actually pretty good. My momma always told me, don't put food in your kits that you wouldn't eat on a normal basis. Granola bars and fruit leather are delicious and keep for a long time. So those are the kinds of things I try to fill mine with. Those should keep kids happy for a while.
Okay, so we have these good friends, and he was a marine...their whole food storage is MRE's - I kid you not!
The part about the formula and diapers gave me a good chuckle. :) Thanks for the reminder -- our 72 hours kit definitely needs to be improved. I'm sure we have expired food and probably nothing to keep Isaac entertained . . .
The weird thing is . . . I have food for my 72-hour kits, but nothing else. Thanks for reminding me that I still have lots to do.
I need to update mine.. I was planning on it during conference weekend.. uhh.. is that over already?
I still have lots to do too! I need to get with it!!! Fast!
