We really enjoyed Conference this weekend. The weather was amazing and it was so nice to hear from the leaders of the church. After "attempting" to listen to three General Conference sessions with the help of some conference packets for the boys, Travis was brilliant and came up with a plan for the final session. He got out all the Play-Doh for the boys to quietly play with at the kitchen table while listening to the talks. Then we had our first semi-annual General Conference popcorn party! We put out a blanket on the floor in front of the TV and with a cup of popcorn in hand and a sippy cup of juice, they were hanging on every word for the last hour. Fabulous! We now have a new Conference tradition in our family! Do you think they'll eat popcorn for 8 hours next fall? I will...no problem!
So, did you try something with your kids that worked well this year to keep em' focused on Conference?

The conference pack was great -- but my kids are still a little young and their short attention spans keep them from anything for too long. Jer and I were able to still listen, though -- I'm really not sure what the kids did. :) They were off in the other room, and we were happy with that.
What a great idea! I had high hopes to use that fabulous pack...but it didn't work out so well for us. I am not going to plan on it next time, and then maybe Murphy's Law will kick in and it will work out!
My friend did buzz words. I am going to do it in the fall.
A get a bowl of popcorn mark with a label "Jesus", a bowl of cereal labeled "prayer", a bowl of m&ms labeled "baptism" etc.. She did seven different bowls. The words you hear less often were the special treats. Every time they hear the word the got to eat one of the treats.
We did the conference BINGO this year. My kids love it and listen SO well.
I had lots of good intentions. Maybe next time. Good idea on the popcorn party.
Sounds like a great plan. I'll have to try that.
