Survivor Day #1

Today I spoke in sacrament meeting for the first time in about 8 years. My topic was on the "Blessings of Serving in Primary". It hit me as I was writing my talk that I really am enjoying my calling. I guess I have just been focusing on all the busy work that comes with a calling in the primary presidency and haven't taken the time to articulate my feelings about these primary kids and the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have heard many times before that the one who benefits most from a talk or lesson is the one who prepared it. I get it. I love those kids and honestly look forward to next Sunday.

Another Montana trip family picture moment!

This morning, our bishop asked us to be a test family to try out a new challenge he put together for emergency preparedness. For one week starting today, we are supposed to live off of our food storage and avoid trips to the grocery store. He gave us a packet with different activities to do as a family and a special Family Home Evening lesson with a treasure hunt game to find certain emergency supplies in the house. I think for one night we are supposed to turn off the electricity to the house as a way to find out if we have all the emergency supplies we need. I think it will be great for us to go through our supply of food in the cupboards and make a list of things we will need in the future to round out our emergency supply. Wish us luck!

Oh K! I remember when Bishop annouced they would be doing things like this in the year 2008, Mark and I looked at each other and said, "Looks like we are moving out of the ward at just the right time!" :) I am happy to hear you have such a positive attitude towards your fun challenge. I wish you all the best of luck and I can't wait to hear how it goes!

I agree with Janell! Phew! but please tell us all about it so if we are feeling adventuresome we will try it too. At least in the summer you won't freeze to death, but I'm not sure if I could live without A/C. so maybe I'll do the challenge in early Sept.

That's a great challenge . . . for someone else's ward. :) I would hope I would do okay, but it's hard to know for sure. Look forward to your updates!

We might die if we did that.

Just kidding. I think we would do okay. I will mention it to Lincoln and see if we should give it a try. AFTER I get some Milk and eggs.
