...from JURY DUTY!
I've never been selected before for this joy of all joys. Until now. It freaks me out. You know, it is just one of those things where I'm glad someone else is doing it, but I don't want to have to do it myself. I feel like it is such a life-changing thing to read that verdict and I don't want to be one of the jury who decides someones fate. Travis showed me the envelope with a big teasing smile on his face and my heart started to race. Luckily (I think), we'll be in Montana on that day and so I deferred...until October.
Travis was picked for jury duty last month and I actually LAUGHED at him! He called in the night before and didn't even have to go at all and that counted for his duty. I should have knocked on wood when I laughed at him. Well, now the tables have turned and this time he is the one laughing out loud! Serves me right. Please say someone you know has had a positive experience with jury duty. Hopefully I'll follow this up with a nice post afterwards to tell you I've had a change of heart about the whole thing.

I was called up for jury duty 2 times 2 years ago! One I called in and didn't have to go in, but the other one I have to go in for the jury selection. It took forever, but it was really interesting! I didn't get chosen because it was a girl that was caught dealing drugs in a school zone. 1st strike-I had small kids and 2nd strike-my husband was going through the police academy. They thought I might be a little biased. I was kinda bummed though, I really enjoyed it and wanted to see the next phase of things. You might like it. At least it's different from the everyday life!
I've never been called to jury duty, but I will admit I've been selected as a Nielson family for TV ratings. :)
I dread the thought of jury duty, too. As you said, it's a lot of pressure and time away from family (depending on the case, I guess)
Don't worry, you are smart, you will never make the jury - I am just kidding of course - my very smart sister always has jury duty, and they always make her the forewoman!
Horrible! I had to do it once as a 20 year old. It was a ridiculous case. I was the youngest person on the jury...ya, I was not taken seriously either. One man said, "out of the mouths of babes" after I said something!
Good luck to you. Just act really crazy, and silly. They won't pick you! =) LOL!
I was called for jury duty last summer. I went, and they didn't pick me. Don't know why, but I was okay with that. The selection process took quite a long time, so make sure to bring something to do (like a book to read)! By the time I had been sitting in the court room for over an hour, I actually started to think it might be interesting to serve on the jury. It's really not that bad, but I do remember being very nervous beforehand, just like you!
I'm definitely NOT jealous -- but it will probably be an eye-opening experience.
Ooh... if you get picked you get to make like 10 bucks a day! :) Excellent. hehe.. Sorry about it though, I have no wisdom.. never been called. Ask Tim, he has.
Best o' luck! :) Whether good or bad it will be an experience you will never forget!
In the event you have a few hours that you dont want back, I would be happy to convey the nightmare that was my Jury Duty experience. ;)
Seriously though, I did have a pretty bad experience. But that being said, I still felt pretty good about taking care of my civic duty when it was all over.
I got selected last summer and Doug had to take time off work so I could go down and fill out the massively-long questionaire. Then I had to call in every night for a week, but I'm pretty sure I made it clear I would be biased in a "crazy druggie father murders toddler" case since I have my own toddlers. They didn't call me, much to my relief. I really didn't think I could have handled any crime scene pictures, etc.
My point: there's always a chance you won't have to be part of the actual Jury.
Good Luck!
